Sue Hamer
Painter
I paint primarily in oil on a small scale, on board, paper, and canvas.
My work explores the cinematic and photographic qualities of painting. I use both found images and my own photographs as source material, transforming them through reframing, cropping, and close-ups—strategies drawn from photography and film. These fragmented compositions are then rendered in paint using a limited palette and subtle tones, condensing and flattening space. Through this process, I aim to evoke a liminal space where memory, landscape, and narrative quietly converge.
