Sue Hamer

I am a painter living and working in Eastbourne.

I work mainly on intimate, small-scale paintings in oil.  My recent work is inspired by an investigation into filmic qualities in painting.

I use low-resolution photographs as source material for my work, as this allows me to explore the missing details during the painting process.  I use many of the techniques found in photography and film, such as close-ups, cropping, and framing to create a more fragmented composition.  This disconnect between the original photo and the painting treatment creates a strangeness to the subject matter that I am interested in.
