Emma Mason Gallery 21 Lushington Lane, Eastbourne

We headed back to the Emma Mason Gallery in Eastbourne for our April Event.

Emma joined us to discuss her gallery’s role in preserving the archives of numerous printmakers. Sharing how their work ensures the printmaker’s legacy remains appreciated and accessible to new audiences.

Emma Mason has run the Emma Mason Gallery since 2004, specialising in British prints from the post-war period to the present. Her work focuses on enhancing the recognition and reputation of artists, managing archives, and presenting these works to the public in innovative exhibitions. She combines her background in Art History with her experience in building relationships with artists and estates, making her a passionate advocate for British printmaking. Thank you so much Emma and Richard, for hosting us last night @emmamasonprints for a fascinating talk, sharing your story of how the gallery and the archives started and have developed. From a chest of drawers to last-minute flights, to building relationships with printmakers and their families, to treasures under the bed, we loved hearing the story. We were also privileged to be able to view some of the background materials that make up some of the archives - including carved leather brooches, copper plates and planning drawings for multiple plate linocuts. We are very lucky to have this gallery on our doorstep. If you haven’t been or missed the event, we highly recommend a visit- check their website for opening times and the additional events they are involved in over the next few months, from the London Print Fair @somersethouse to an Exhibition of prints at the stunning National Trust Mottisfont in Hampshire.

As always, thanks to our members and the visitors who came along to make it such a positive evening.
