Bluemonkey Network was delighted to welcome Hettie Judah to celebrate the launch of her latest book, How to Enter the Art World... after a late start, a first career, illness, raising children, a crisis of confidence, leaving it in disgust...

For this event, we heard from 4 of our artist members who shared a 5-minute Pecha Kucha style talk about their practice, followed by an open floor discussion led by Hettie.  We then had an opportunity to purchase the book and have it signed by Hettie.

We discussed the value of group shows, planning your budget for open calls, the Basic Income Scheme for artists in Ireland, the value of artist networks - like ours- the overused word ‘emerging’, blanks in our CVs from caring, the reality of running jobs alongside our art practice, how resilient we are for still creating as well as juggling other and changing demands over months and years to name just a few.

Blue Monkey would like to extend a huge thank you to Hettie Judah for sharing her wisdom and insights into the art world with us. We are also deeply grateful to our four members — Elizabeth Doak, Heloise Jackson, Annie Burrows, and Caroline Pick, who generously offered insight into their ways of working, thinking, reflecting, and creating. Thank you as well to our audience for engaging so thoughtfully, and to Towner Eastbourne for hosting us.
